HTML5 and its impact on presentations
Everyone sees HTML when they go to websites. The latest version of HTML called HTML5.
HTML5 is suppose to eliminate the need for Flash on websites.
This website presents an slide deck on HTML5 that was written in HTML5. The slides are basic, but they are functional.
Sides That Stick asks
Could HTML5 become the default file format for all presentations, decoupling software that creates presentations, environments that display them, and sites that build a social infrastructure for sharing on the web?
I will take my opinion about this question:
I do not believe any file format will become the default format. There will always be pockets of people who like their formats. Powerpoint will stick with Powerpoint, Keynote will stick with Keynote. Also, there will be people who will use Google Docs and Zoho because it is free.
However, I do believe that HTML5 *could* change how presentation decks will be shared. Instead of uploading a file and allowing someone to download it, I believe that people can create their slides in Keynote/Powerpoint and export it to HTML5. Then, the user can post the code on their server. That way, I can see the slides on Windows/Mac/iPad without the need for Flash.
