Ep. 19 – Know Thy Audience
Your first question when preparing a speech should be:
- Who’s my audience? Until you understand them better than they do themselves, you’re not ready to speak to them. What do they want? What are their hopes and fears?
And your second question should be, what do I want that audience to do differently as a result of my speech?
Tip: How do you know your audience? Ask them.
To do? Match your speech to your audience. Focus everything to lead up to that, and you’re off and running.
