Find new ways to practice public speaking
When I see a speech in a classroom, I can tell who has practiced and who has not.
The best way to improve a speech is to prepare and practice the speech beforehand. One challenge: Finding the time to practice. Goodness knows we do not want to cut into Facebook and XBox 360 time to practice, <gasp>, speaking.
Denise Graveline, who writes The Eloquent Woman, has come up with five ways to increase your practice time:
- Do it in the commercial breaks
- Schedule an hour a week
- Focus on one part of a thorny issue
- Use your drive time
- Use that hotel room
Practice time is key to improving speaking skills. Find time to practice and you can see improving. Also, practice can help reduce speech anxiety.
